Refuses the Operation', by Lisel Mueller. He places the poem into
context in the life of the painter Claude Monet, as well as in
Mueller’s own life, and delves into the themes of perception and
illusion that it explores. Lisel Mueller was born in Germany
in 1924, and lived most of her life in the US until her death
in 2020.
